When I was a little girl my friends and I would play outdoor games. One of our favorites was treasure hunting.
We would hide our most precious valuables, draw up treasure maps and place ourselves on separate teams and attempt to find one another's carefully hidden articles.
What we loved most about the game was the way we would brainstorm. Everyone had something unique to contribute to the treasure hunt. I liked the enthusiastic way everyone searched.
I enjoyed listening to the excitement that would ring out when one of us would find a clue that would bring us closer to the coveted treasure.
Every little piece of evidence was carefully considered. Just contemplating winning the game made every effort worth the expenditure of our energy.
Looking for buried secret treasures had us all using every bit of our logic, intuition and imagination. It was wonderful seeing my friends so engaged in the pursuit of what we thought of as nothing short of the Holy Grail.
I think what was so endearing to me, even now, as I recall the intensity of our game, was the quest, it was the underlying meaning of what the treasure represented.
For each one of us it was different but our overall optimism was shared, as we believed that we would be on the winning team and that we would be the first to lay our eyes on the bounty and this faith was absolutely infectious.
Our faith prevailed even when the opposing team appeared to be closer to the attainment of the treasure itself.
In God we have that same assurance. What He offers is also a treasure but a more lasting one.
All that is expected from us is faith in exchange for this magnificent trove of riches.
Our conviction is our reward. It leads us in much the same way as the map we used to look for clues that told us we were going in the right direction.
When we remain faithful in our conviction to God and all that he provides we see treasures everywhere and very few are hidden.
