Teens Making a Difference | From the Principal's MacBook

Guidance Counselor, Deb Ludwig has announced that Korin Nickerson has been granted the prestigious Teens Who Care Award by WCHS Channel 6 in Portland.  Korin will receive a $2,000 academic scholarship and she will also be given a $2,000 grant to award to the charity of her choice.  The Gay-Lesbian-Straight Education Network (GLESN) selects about forty students and adult leaders to attend the Safe Schools Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C.  Senior, DJ Smith is one of the forty people nationwide who has been selected to attend.  Participants will learn how to build organizational skills, study the legislative process, develop messaging strategies to make schools safer, and meet movers and shakers on Capitol Hill.  The Maine Art Education Association sponsors Youth Art Month during March.  Student artwork is selected for display at the Portland Museum of Art.  Mt. Ararat High School has four students who have pieces selected for showing at this important event.  They are:  Shelby Vance, Jameson Foley, Alicia Eggleston, and Emily Cason.   Kate Spies and Haley Bush have been honored at a Rotary luncheon.  They were recognized for their tireless work in providing assistance to their school and community.  Congratulations to junior Morgana Warner-Evans, who advanced to the semi-final round of the Southern Maine Poetry Out Loud competition.David Brann was a top scorer in the recent American Mathematics Competition.  With this distinction, he has earned the opportunity to compete in the American Invitational Mathematics Examination.  This prestigious competition is offered to a limited number of high school students each year, and is used to determine qualification for the United States of America Mathematical Olympiad.   McKenzie Gary participated in the New Balance National Indoor Track Meet in New York where he broke two Maine school records by achieving 22.35 seconds in the 200-meter race & 7.17 seconds in the 60-meter race.
