At this point you agree and are thanking God for the rest stops received. However, the following question lurks your mind, "How much longer, Lord?!" You are and have been perturbed about the length of this desert. 3,500,000 square miles; that number keeps ringing in your head. Seriously? Could it get any longer? You may be 5 miles or even 2,000,000 miles into it; either way, it's hot, icky, and dreadful. Do not be the kid in the back seat of the car screaming, "Are we there yet?!" God will simply shake His head and keep steering until you get the point or learn the lesson. It was suppose to be an 11 day journey to Canaan for the Israelites. Unfortunately, because of their attitude, it turned out to be 40 years.
It is easy to say you believe God knows what He is doing, but submitting to His will is another. Yes, in your desert you will face days of loneliness, terror, mockery, and immense confusion. Nevertheless, there will be a day when there is joy in the wilderness. In Isaiah 35 we learn the feeble are strengthened, the anxious heart turns calm, the blind eyes open, the ears of the deaf unstopped, and the lame leap like deer. The flesh and heart may fail for a moment, but the one who placed you in the Sahara shall fulfill His purpose – period. Don't allow your mind place restrictions behind that sentence!
Verse 8 of the same chapter says, "A highway will be built there, a roadway, And it will be called the Highway of Holiness (NASB)." You may think it is inconceivable, but there is a road in the desert for those ransomed and redeemed. Do not be so distraught in your desert that you miss the highway.
