Roses and The Pittsburgh Pirates | Days of May

Hope springs eternal for Pittsburgh baseball fans and rose gardeners!

April 1st, the Pittsburgh Pirates began their season with a win! Fans cheered and had visions of a winning season. Two weeks into the season, the Pirates are at 5 wins and 7 loses or a 41% winning record. We already have a good idea that 2011 will be the 19th straight losing season for the Pirates.

Like Pirate fans, every Spring rose gardeners in Pittsburgh prune their roses with dreams of a summer full of beautiful blooms. It is not long, however, before the battle with too much humidity and a variety of insects reeks havoc on those dreams of glory.

Today was my opening day for the 2011 Days of May Rose Season. I am full of hope that it will be a good year and I will have many pictures of beautiful blooms to share or that it is at least more than two weeks before the battle begins!
