When I saw a veteran's article online, I started to think that the Iraq war was a mistake for both American and Iraq people. There are more than 30,000 soldiers still staying at Iraq. Each year, the congress spent over 10 million dollars on supporting the military expenditure. The huge cost doesn't bring any benefits to American army, instead many casualties of American soldiers in the fighting. In 2004, George Bush declared that Iraq had WMD (weapons of mass destruction), but actually it was a lie. American soldiers did not seek any clues about those weapons, and they needed to rebuild Iraq because of their destroy attack.
I remembered that the first Iraq war was in 1991, which named gulf war. The aim of this war was to eliminate the local dictatorship. That was a military victory for American because American soldiers only used two months and got the victory of military actions. The war was leaded by Walker Bush, the father of George Bush. The gulf war was a smart movement and a sensible decision for America. It brought many benefits to America. Many East Asia countries were willing to trade oil with America after the war. Kuwait and Saudi Arabia utilized American power to control the politic power because their opponent, Iraq was defeated by America. Those Arabia countries were trend to follow the American steps so they got together with America to confirm the price of oil to maintain the market stability, which provided a peaceful atmosphere of the world. Thus, the first Iraq war was accurate to fight with. Soldiers were less dead in the short battle. America also got what it wanted. However, the aim of the present Iraq war was quite wrong. George Bush only wanted to follow what his father did, and did it again. There is no any sense to attack a poverty country in ten years again.
The strategy of the war was to destroy the mass weapon and eliminated those terrorists hiding in East Asia. However, America did not accomplish any goals of those. It did not eliminate all the terrorists, neither found any mass weapons in the end. The prolong battles became a burden for American soldiers. They needed to be responsible to rebuild the country and had to maintain people's basic lives. The situation in Iraq was still messy and tumbles, and if America soldiers leave, the terrorists would come back and occupy the government again. Although, many people had already considered about the bad situation would last for a several years, the huge expenditure and casualty forced the leaders of America to think about retreat. Obama made a decision to lead American soldiers to withdraw step by step in 2009. This decision coincide many American people's views. After the 2009 economic crisis, American government did not have much money to support this war.
