The Art of Gossip « Diary of a Teacher

In one of our lessons, my Intermediate class confused the idea of reporting and gossip. Here's what the Cambridge Online Dictionary has to say:

To report is to give a description of something or information about it to someone. For example:

I want you to report (to me) on progress (= on what you have done) every Friday.

To gossip, however, is to report about other people's private lives which might be unkind, disapproving or not true.
