aurora alert: year's largest solar flare

The largest so far this year, a category M6.6 solar flare is earthbound. A skywatcher alert has been issued for auroras in possibly lower as well as higher latitudes. Experts agree a cloud of radiation from a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME), will hit the Earth's magnetic field on or about Feb. 15th. The source of the activity is sunspot 1158, which is expected to grow. Many thanks go to Oystein Lunde Ingvaldsen for his wonderful images like the one pictured. The captured Northern Lights image is from the present buffeting of the magnetosphere above Bo, a town in Norway. They are a wonder to behold!. The lack of sunspot activity seems to support predictions of cold temperatures? Anthony Watts, in an article at Watts Up With That?, predicts a repeat of a Dalton Minimum. Watts recaps solar cycle expert David Archibald's graphs. What is a Dalton Minimum and its weather implications? "The Dalton Minimum was a period of low solar activity, named after the English meteorologist John Dalton, lasting from about 1790 to 1830. Like the Maunder Minimum and Spörer Minimum, the Dalton Minimum coincided with a period of lower-than-average global temperatures. The Oberlach Station in Germany, for example, experienced a 2.0°C decline over 20 years. The Year Without a Summer, in 1816, also occurred during the Dalton Minimum," writes Watts. Archibald also examines interplanetary magnetic field strength. A weaker interplanetary magnetic field means more cosmic rays reach our planet. The measure is taken by a neutron count and it is higher than the previous solar minimum. It seems, yet, another blow delivered to the global warming agenda. This is your solarcast for late 2010.

nasa says solar flare will strike earth nov 14 or 15

Sunspot 1123 hurled a C-4 class solar flare in the Earth's direction just south of the Sun-Earth line, sometime, in the early hours of Nov. 12, 2010. The coronal mass ejection (CME) could glance off the Earth's magnetic field on either Nov. 14th or Nov. 15th to create auroras. Full article is at Before It's News. "Earlier last week, active sunspot 1121 has unleashed one of the brightest x-ray solar flares in years, an M5.4-class eruption at 15:36 UT on Nov. 6th." 1859 carrington event

NASA website recaps 1859 Carrington Event the largest known solar flare observed by English astronomer Richard Carrington. "Just before dawn the next day, skies all over planet Earth erupted in red, green, and purple auroras so brilliant that newspapers could be read as easily as in daylight. Indeed, stunning auroras pulsated even at near tropical latitudes over Cuba, the Bahamas, Jamaica, El Salvador, and Hawaii." "Spark discharges shocked telegraph operators and set the telegraph paper on fire. Even when telegraphers disconnected the batteries powering the lines, aurora-induced electric currents in the wires still allowed messages to be transmitted." from ap: The sun may be about to put on a colorful light show. That's because of two minor solar storms that flared on Sunday and are shooting tons of plasma directly at Earth. Scientists said residents of northern regions - from Maine to Michigan and anywhere farther north around the globe - may see unusual northern lights. Usually only regions closer to the Arctic can see the aurora of rippling reds and greens, but solar storms pull them south. The federal Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colo., said the plasma will likely arrive late Tuesday night or early Wednesday. The storms are not much of a threat to satellites or power grids. Until recently, the sun was in a phase with few storms.

scientists find most massive star ever discovered

from ap: A huge ball of brightly burning gas drifting through a neighboring galaxy may be the heaviest star ever discovered - 100s of times more massive than the sun, scientists said Wednesday after working out its weight for the first time. Those behind the find say the star, called R136a1, may once have weighed as much as 320 solar masses. Astrophysicist Paul Crowther said the obese star - twice as heavy as any previously discovered - has already slimmed down considerably over its lifetime... it's burning itself off with such intensity that it shines at nearly 10 million times the luminosity of the sun.

ground zero: space weather, coronal mass ejection & chile quake

from clyde lewis: The Large 8.8 earthquake that hit Chile was not a product of HARRP but it very well could have been a result of a direct hit from the snapping of a solar filament. All last week pictures had been issued from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory of an enormous magnetic filament that hung suspended above the surface of the sun’s southern hemisphere. It was estimated to be I million Kilometers or 621,371 miles long. The filament could wrap itself 24 times around the earth. SOHO did say that the Filament did snap around the 25th of February. It produced clouds and a coronal mass ejection. It was unknown what effect it would have had on the earth.

Now we see that a mass earthquake hits Chile some days after the CME occurs. A tsunami set off by the magnitude-8.8 quake threatened every nation around the Pacific Ocean roughly a quarter of the globe.

I would say that we are not out of the woods yet. We have until March 1st to see if anything else strange may go down.

All this activity is a sign that the sun is coming back to life after a long, deep solar minimum. Sunspots have returned crackling with solar flares, and coronal mass ejections.

In the Ground Zero Lounge report "That Synching Feeling: Modern Hermetic Arcanum," I reported that last year it was predicted that something like this would happen within the next three years. It wasn’t predicted by some dime store psychic, but NASA Scientists.

The book 'Severe Space Weather Events–Understanding Societal & Economic Impacts Workshop Report' is a fictitious account that is available for free online and gives us an up close and personal look into a “fictitious“ massive coronal ejection.

The coronal ejection Electromagnetic pulse or EMP from the sun is detailed in the book with a fictitious scenario that happens at Midnight on September 22nd, 2012. In the fictitious account,

“The skies above Manhattan are filled with a flickering curtain of colorful light. Few New Yorkers have seen the aurora this far south but their fascination is short-lived. Within a few seconds, electric bulbs dim and flicker, then become unusually bright for a fleeting moment. Then all the lights in the state go out. Within 90 seconds, the entire eastern half of the US is without power. The earth begins to rock and a devastating earthquake is felt over a large area. A year later and millions of Americans are dead and the nation’s infrastructure lies in tatters. The World Bank declares America a developing nation. Europe, Scandinavia, China and Japan are also struggling to recover from the same fateful event – a violent storm, 150 million kilometers away on the surface of the sun.”

The amazing thing is that the report details beautiful flashing lights above the earth before the EMP or CME hits the earth. When the earthquake hit Chile it was reported on MSNBC that a freelance reporter Cecilia Lagos said that before the quake she saw brilliant flashes of light and brilliant colors in the sky over Chile in the wee morning hours before the quake hit.

People may ask, If this coronal ejection was so huge then why was Chile only feeling the effects? Well this is not over yet, but there is a very good reason why Chile and several other areas in the Southern hemisphere may not escape the wrath of the Electromagnetic Tsunami.

There is an area known as the South Atlantic Anomaly which is a dip in the Earth’s magnetic field which allows cosmic rays, and charged particles to reach lower into the atmosphere. This interferes with communication with satellites, aircraft, and the Space Shuttle. While there are theories as to why this occurs, the geologic origin is not yet known. The earth’s magnetic field is there to protect us from threats. A breach in the field leaves us open for danger.

The magnetic field in the south Atlantic Anomaly can leave people that live in these regions vulnerable for a Pulse ejection from the sun. The mainstream media will not report that a filament from the Sun was dangling above us for three weeks before it exploded. People would panic not knowing what to expect.
