After much recent research, we've concluded that most young actresses seem to fall into one of two style camps: safe or sloppy. Fortunately, there are a few refreshing alternatives to this rule, like today's subject—the perpetually polished Emma Roberts! She's been dazzling us for ages, ever since she turned up at a Teen Vogue Young Hollywood Party wearing a polka-dotted D&G dress and the perfect pair of black patent pumps. As it turns out, the endearing ensemble was just a sign of things to come! Since then, Roberts has showcased an endless line of splendid red carpet getups and equally inspiring daywear choices. In addition to her stellar style, Roberts' acting career is blooming, too: she is the leading lady in this month's Hotel for Dogs and the upcoming Wild Child. All things considered, Roberts is definitely prime Girl of the Month material!

WhoWhatWear.com regulars will recall Miss Roberts from a handful of our daily stories (such as What They Wore: NY Fashion Week and What Was She Wearing: Answers!), but we purposefully set aside a few of her best ensembles for today! With the helping hands of the styling duo, MAUDE—otherwise known as Emily Current and Merritt Elliott—Roberts constantly dresses to perfection in colorful, fresh, and age-appropriate pieces.

One of the things we appreciate most about Roberts is her enthusiasm for trying lots of different looks. She can be playful, like in the Ruffian Graffiti Dress ($5495, 310.659.5785) and Current/Elliott Shrunken JJ Jean Jacket ($239) she wore to Intermix's 15th Anniversary Event in New York City, but is just as capable at sporting more proper attire. A case in point is the prim Couture Couture Silk Chiffon Ruffle Blouse ($800, 212.727.8029) and Embroidered Skirt ($1500, 212.727.8029) worn with Juicy Couture Mariska Shoes ($194, 212.727.8029) she displayed while at the Ritz Carlton last year.

Roberts also pulls off casual hipster look with flying colors, as she demonstrated at the Sundance Film Festival Stein Eriksen's Lounge in Park City by modeling a Ron Herman shirt, JBrand Ankle Skinny Jeans ($159), Stuart Weitzman Over-The-Knee Flat Boots ($535), Phoebe Price Headband ($130, 310.550.1341), and skull scarf. And last, but not least, Roberts even does menswear well! She delighted us when she borrowed from the boys and turned up at her Hotel for Dogs premiere in a Helmut Lang Racerback Top ($80) and Cotton Tuxedo Jacket ($565, 323.951.0994), worn with Chloe Silk Shorts ($825, 800.558.1855). (Roberts' splurge of the season would be "everything from Chloe's Spring 09 Collection!") The ensemble was an unexpected and sophisticated departure from what her peers would wear and a wonderful wardrobe selection.

So just how does our spotlighted starlet conceive her style? For starters, we'd say all of her work-related traveling is definitely an influential factor to her taste. When on location in various cities, Roberts' favorite places to shop are Intermix in New York, Madison in LA, and Topshop in London. On top of that, she is "inspired by Sienna Miller's personal style, old movies, and just flipping through magazines." Roberts picks up her preferred newsstand material—Nylon, Teen Vogue, British ELLE, Australian Bazaar, and French Vogue—whenever she gets a chance. Most importantly, Roberts dresses according to her own golden rule: "Whatever you feel confident and comfortable in is what you should wear!" Wise words indeed.—Jessica Amento
