I have been a MAJOR (borderline obsessive) fan of Lupe Fiasco for some year's now. Studio albums, mixtapes, performances, style--RELIGION. I absolutely adore his music and what he's done for Hip-Hop. I was browsing the boards at OkayPlayer and found a post discussing his involvement with British indie band Japanese Cartoon. Lu is working on the production of the band as well as providing finances, and a lot of people think this is actually a cover--the lead singer, Percival Fats, sounds dangerously like him. Lu, however, denies all allegations. Lu said, "I like those kids a lot...Met the bass player overseas last year and their publicist/manager is a good friend from like childhood. May sign them. Not me singing though." Kanye sings...is Lu next? I'm not really sure, but Percival Fat's sounds EXACTLY like Lupe, minus the bad accent. But, it could just as easily be some London kid who unfortunately never developed the correct gorgeousness that is English vernacular. What do ya'll think? Either way, the music seems pretty cool and pretty in sync with something he'd be interested in working on/creating. Lu is pretty adamant with his declaration of the death (or rather, slow dying) of Hip-Hop, so maybe this is his quiet exit and entrance into a new genre?
