A major dust storm blanketed parts of Arizona, including the Phoenix area, late Tuesday and some residents were able to capture plenty of video of the unique event. The storm -- also known broadly as a "haboob" -- is a top rising search today on YouTube and over 1,000 videos tagged "dust storm" have been uploaded in the past 24 hours.

Close Footage of Nebraska Tornadoes
Multiple tornadoes touched down in Nebraska late yesterday afternoon destroying homes and powerlines. Several storm-chasers put themselves in position to capture close footage of the tornado in Bradshaw, Nebraska and we're seeing many of those videos quickly make their way onto YouTube. Most-Viewed in Oklahoma: Dramatic Downburst
Three of the most-viewed videos today in Oklahoma City are from a unusual weather event that took place this week in nearby Norman, OK Tuesday. Meteorologists are calling the sudden storm a "downburst," which reportedly creates sudden strong winds at ground level.
As you can see in the amateur video below, the storm began with large hail and suddenly shifted to a severe windstorm, warping fences and trees:

'Tornado' Searches Hit Major Highs
We've seen quite a few tornado videos this Spring draw heavy interest in the United States, so we went through YouTube's search data to look at relative searches for the word "tornado" over time.
Here's what we found:

Searches in the past two months for "tornado" have been at their highest point -- by a significant margin -- compared to the past few years. During that time frame, the state with the most regional interest was Alabama and the two largest spikes, which can be seen above, were around the Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Joplin, Missouri tornadoes.
But these were not the only two events that drove interest. Below is a quick list of footage recaps from just the past two months on YouTube Trends:

Massachusetts Tornadoes and Aftermath
Three confirmed tornadoes reportedly touched down in the vicinity of Springfield, Massachusetts Wednesday afternoon, leaving at least four dead. A number of videos were soonafter posted depicting the tornadoes and the incredible damaged left in their wake in Springfield and Brimfield.

What They're Watching: First-Person Disaster Video
This post was authored by Michelle Castillo as a part of a YouTube Trends series exploring the videos being watched this week by the team at What's Trending.
The destructive path of the Joplin tornado has been witnessed by thousands miles away. Through pictures and first person videos from the individuals who had to experience the fury first hand, we can see exactly what happened when the record-breaking tornado hit the small town.
The Joplin tornado is the deadliest to hit America since the 1950s, with 117 people reported dead so far. Volunteers and rescue officials are still sorting through the rubble, and with at least 130 people still unaccounted for many fear that the death toll may still rise.
One of the most watched videos on YouTube is "First Person video of Joplin MO tornado 5/22/11" by izelsg. While you can’t see much, you can hear his family’s horror as the tornado rips through their part of town.
Here are some other videos of Mother Nature at her worst, told by the people who survived to tell the tale. Here’s one family’s family vacation. They happened to be in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.

Under the Ash Plume of the Grímsvötn Volcano
The eruption of the Grímsvötn volcano in Iceland over the weekend causing some traveling delays but also resulting in some incredible images that drew significant views on YouTube:

Tornado in Taipei
Residents in New Taipei City were visited by a rare sight this week: a tornado on the island of Taiwan. According to reports, the only damage sustained was to a vehicle that was overturned and there were no casualties.
A number of users in the area were able to capture videos of the tornado, which have been picking up thousands of views since being posted and are among the Most Viewed in the area today. Here's a playlist:

Video of Latest Flooding in North America
Over the weekend, videos were posted by residents in several North American cities of major flooding at the Mississippi River, the Assiniboine River in Manitoba, and Lake Champlain in Vermont and New York. In particular, there were a significant number of Memphis as the Mississippi river neared a record crest.

Most Viewed in New Zealand: Auckland Tornado
The most-viewed videos of the past 24 hours in New Zealand are all footage of the tornado that struck the suburb of Albany in Auckland yesterday. The tornado reportedly killed one and injured 14. A number of YouTube users uploaded incredible on-the-scene footage of the storm.

Frightening Tornado Videos from Tuscaloosa
Nearly 200 people were killed this week by severe weather that blasted the South, with a reported 32 deaths in Tuscaloosa alone where one of the largest tornados touched down Wednesday at around 5pm. Wind speeds are said to have topped 135 mph.
Following the storm, we're seeing an influx of incredible video of that tornado. Wednesday evening into Thursday morning, searches for videos from the storm were among the top rising on YouTube. Below you is a play list of some of the videos drawing the most attention overnight and this morning:

Chaotic Footage from St. Louis Airport Tornado
On Friday evening, Lambert Airport in St. Louis was struck by what's been called the area's worst tornado in 44 years, resulting in dramatic footage from security cameras and from passengers in the terminal at the time of the storm.

Mexico City was struck by a sudden, unexpected storm on Saturday afternoon creating showers of large hail that were captured on video all over the area. Today, three of the most-viewed videos in Mexico are on-the-scene clips of the hailstorm and its aftermath.

Extensive Tornado Footage from the Southeast
Over the weekend, more than two hundred tornadoes tore through the Southeastern United States killing over 40 people. Over the weekend, we saw a big influx of videos shot by a both storm chasers and regular bystanders capturing some of these tornadoes in North Carolina, Mississippi, and other states.

Morning Search: Merrill Tornado
One of this morning's top rising searches is for footage of a reported tornado in Merrill, Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon. Area residents posted a number of clips yesterday both of the storm's arrival and the damage left in its wake.

Australia Cyclone: On-the-Scene Footage
Wednesday, North Queensland, Australia was hit with a category five cyclone, Yasi, that damaged much of the coast.
Yesterday, the majority of the Most Shared videos in Australia were all from the Queensland Police Service's channel, and in the time leading up to landfall, many users began posting "calm before the storm"-type clips. As the storm arrived, we began seeing videos posted from cities like Townsville, with some users uploading near hourly updates.

Big Blizzard Results in Snowstorm Footage Spike
Last night and into this morning, a large swath of the country was blasted by a winter storm that affected areas from Texas to Maine. One result has been a big influx of winter-weather-related footage on YouTube. The most popular batch has been from Chicago and videos from the snowstorm in that area were among the top spiking searches earlier this morning.
Over 7,000 "blizzard"-related videos have been uploaded to YouTube in the past 24 hours. Many of those videos are personal accounts of the storm uploaded by individual users from all over the affected area sharing their experiences. We've collected several of them in the playlist below:

Icy Temperatures Mean Cold Weather Magic
Temperatures have dropped across the Northern Hemisphere and we've begun to see a rise in popularity for a specific kind of cold weather video.
The most common videos are the variety showing cold weather residents tossing cups of boiling water into the and watching them "magically" evaporate. We've seen them from Saskatchewan, Minnesota, Toronto, Pennsylvania, and Ontario. This one, which was filmed in -30F temperatures in Canada's Northwest Territories and posted earlier this month, has been heavily shared and was viewed nearly three million times:
We also spotted this one, with a YouTube user substituting coffee for water.
It turns out that searches for "icy" videos this past week were relatively the highest they've ever been, and even some older videos have been drawing interest. For example, one video of some bubbles freezing from two years ago suddenly went from a few hundred views to over 150,000.
The Mount Washington Observatory posted their own "frozen bubble" video this week:

How Soon Till Spring?
It may only be mid-January, but if searches for YouTube videos are any indication, we might already be pretty sick of snowy winter weather.
According to YouTube data, searches for "snow" videos generally peak in December, which could mean that while we like to take in the winter weather when it first arrives, we are not excited about looking at more of it after the holidays. (Interesting aside: searches containing "snow" are most proportionately-popular in Ireland ...where the band Snow Patrol is from.)
Searches for "snow storm" were at the highest they'd ever been (by far) at the end of this past December during the big winter storm that blanketed the Northeast.
