Ad victoria!: Leesburg High Latin students excel at forum « Lake County Schools' Blog

Nineteen Latin students from Leesburg High competed last month with more than a 1,000 students from across the state at the 2011 Florida Junior Classical League State Latin Forum.

The Leesburg High School Latin Club came in ninth place in overall Creative Division for doing so well with many of its creative projects and 10th place in the overall Ludi (Spirit contests) awards.

The following students placed:

Brianne Robinson, second place Illustrated Noteboook & ninth place Advanced Hellenic History Miller Nguyen, second place Charts & Posters Scott Anderson, fifth place Computer Programs Seth Rowe, fifth place Miscellaneous Art & 10th place Vocabulary 2 Hailie Curtis sixth place Miscellaneous Art & ninth place Vocabulary 2 Abby Hindman, seventh place Greek Derivatives II & ninth place Advanced Geography Serai Feliciano, seventh place 2-D Art Julie Bitsios, seventh place Maps Amanda Rufner, seventh place Miscellaneous Art & eighth place Derivatives 2 Bailey Buckhannon, eighth place Advanced Greek Derivatives Danita Buckner, eighth place Advanced Poetry Caitlin Werner, eighth place Derivatives 2 Deante Davis, ninth place Sculpture

"Bailey Buckhannon did an outstanding job as a state officer helping organize and put on this State Forum," said Aurelia Ogles, Latin Teacher at Leesburg High." Brianne Robinson is the new Florida Junior Classical League State Treasurer and Whitney Mendez, as a rising college freshman, was selected to be the State Historian of the Florida Senior Classical League, the college organization of classics students."

In addition to the awards, Brianne Robinson's state T-shirt design was selected for Florida's shirt at Nationals this summer and this year's Leesburg High Latin Club T-shirt, also her design, won fifth place.

Several of the Leesburg High students to place in the State Latin Forum will be competing at the national level in Richmond, Ky. in July.
