Jacinta Luis a versatile and dynamic vocalist, pianist and songwriter

Jacinta Luis composed the catchy upbeat song “GOA” in celebration of World Goa Day 2010. Jacinta has dedicated the song “GOA” to the children of Goa who do not have the privilege of sharing in the joys of music education. All the profits from the sales of the song “GOA” will be donated by Jacinta to help children in need that would like to learn music in Goa.

Jacinta is a versatile and dynamic vocalist, pianist and songwriter; she is also a music professor at Dawson College in Montreal. Jacinta had the good fortune to be born in to a musical family in Dares Salaam, Tanzania, East Africa. The family’s musical roots can be traced back to their origins in Goa. Her grandparents were born in Goa, Candolim, Sangolda & Guirim; later, they emigrated to East Africa. Since every member of her family sang and played at least one instrument, jamming together was a popular activity at home. She grew to love the bossa novas and swing tunes her father, Jerry Luis’ popular band rehearsed in their den. Starting at the age of four, Jacinta began playing the piano. At the age of seven, Jacinta began performing with her sister in a pianovoicepercussion duo for Miss Universe and an audience of five hundred...including heads of state. At the age of nine, Jacinta sang on a national TV and radio show.

Jacinta studied at the Holy Cross Convent in Siolim, Goa for two years from 1967-1969. In 1971, the Luis family immigrated to Canada, settling in Montreal. Jacinta studied classical piano and pursued music courses at Dawson College and Concordia University, and acquired an MA in Music at the University of Victoria where she developed her interest in vocal jazz, arranging and composing. Since then, she has had a full performing career: as a pianist and vocalist alone and in quartets at Montreal hotels, such as the Four Seasons, the Ritz Carlton and the Bonaventure Hilton.

Jacinta recorded the Music Video of her song “GOA” along with four top Canadian musicians. The instrumentation includes piano, vocals, guitar, saxophone, bass & drums, in Montreal, Canada. Jacinta’s song has a Latin Jazz flavor that evokes the spirit, culture, hospitality, & beautiful landscape of Goa. The lyrics of “GOA” are written primarily in English; however, Luis introduced Konkani lyrics in the chorus of the song. Her intent was to share words of greeting in Konkani to the general public.

The Music Video has been offered online on YouTube: For best results it is important to view it in High Definition 720phd.

Jacinta is currently recording her third album, Resurgence that will be released in October 2010.

The CD single of the song, “GOA” will be available through Luis in the near future for those who would like to purchase it and who wish to contribute to this cause.
