The aftermath of the sighting included much persuasion by authorities to change his account and a brief stay at a nearby mental hospital. It is one of the better known contactee stories, Schmidt related the crew spoke High German to him. Schmidt's life changed and included a flight underneath the North Pole and joined a lecture circuit with the Director of Washington Saucer Intelligence. Schmidt spent time in prison, later, after having swindled money from elderly women who sought cancer cures. A book and film were made of Schmidt's contacts by the same title, "Edge of Tomorrow".
