Rodarte was created by two sisters, Laura and Kate Mulleavy and was launched in Pasadena California in 2005. The line was given its name, Rodarte, after their mother's maiden name. The collection had a modest start: when Laura and Kate Mulleavy took 10 hand-finished piece to NYC and began showing them to buyers and magazine editors. Pieces of their collection were photographed for the cover of Women's Wear Daily and days later Rodarte showed at NYC Fashion Week... the rest is history. Their staple item is a wispy, eclectic dress layered with various fabrics. The Mulleavy sisters have won numerous fashion awards for their intricate, delicate designs. Today, editors, critics, and celebrates alike are embellishing the label.
