Adam Levine Is Christina Aguilera's Punching Bag

Adam Levine Is Christina Aguilera's Punching Bag

As competing mentors on NBC's The Voice, Christina Aguilera and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine have been known to bust each other's chops. But is all that back-and-forth getting to Levine? At a live taping of the show on Tuesday night in Burbank, the multitalented musician joked with OK! that Aguilera "treats me like a human punching bag." But then he quickly backtracked, saying "there's no harm, no foul."

"She’s just, we’re all emotional and excited and really into the show, so it just kind of flares up sometimes," Levine explained.

Levine said that he and Aguilera "bicker like brother and sister," which should make for an interesting dynamic when the new Maroon 5 song, featuring some vocals from Aguilera, is released on iTunes next week. (The single will premiere on next week's live episode of The Voice.)

If anything, says Levine, the competition between the mentors -- including Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green -- is a healthy one.

"I keep telling everybody that we’re friends and we’re not competing with each other at all," says Levine. "Of course not! Our teams, yes. So we are competitive because we want our teams to succeed.”

Both Levine and Aguilera seem to have already benefited from the hit show. Levine has boosted his profile from "that guy from Maroon 5" to an actual household name. Aguilera, of course, was already a household name -- but prior to The Voice, she was having a rough year, with a couple of different setbacks putting her name in the news. The show is giving her a new opportunity to shine, nurturing young artists to follow in her footsteps as a hard-working, successful musician.

So really, everything seems to be working out for both Levine and Aguilera ... if they can get to the finals without killing each other!
