Rihanna, Eminem Join One Billion Club

In the past few weeks, two of pop music's biggest stars joined the prestigious club of performers whose YouTube channel music videos have drawn over one billion views around the world. YouTube data indicates that Eminem officially hit the mark on February 21st and Rihanna hit it on Feb 27th. Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga crossed that figure in 2010.

We decided to look into the numbers and see just what each artist's ride to a billion views looked like.

Below we've broken down the last 13 months in Rihanna music videos, which account for over 800 million views of the one billion. You can see that her most popular video, "Rude Boy" was posted in February, but her collaboration with Drake coincides with the biggest sudden spike in monthly views:

Appropriately enough, the most-popular video by either artist is Eminem's "Love The Way You Lie," which features Rihanna. That video is the #4 most-viewed music video of all-time. (Eminem's "Not Afraid" is #5.)

It's important to note that the billion view number just includes videos posted to each artist's VEVO channel. (So it does not include Eminem's latest collaboration with Dr. Dre, "I Need a Doctor," which was published on Dr. Dre's channel. That video has over 10 million views and has regularly been appearing on our Most Shared list since it was posted on February 24th.)
